Who Is Francesco Yates? [Vid]

If you were tuned into #TheEliteRadioShow awhile back then you would know how cool Francesco Yates really is.  I had the pleasure of interviewing him and he has one wise soul. Who would believe a then 17yr old would name Sam Cooke as one of his musical influences?!

When you listen to his music you’re pulled in by the musicianship, the maturity in his voice and the common practice of trying to figure out who he reminds you of. When you look at him and his massive hair your mind takes you back to the seventies, but when you read that he’s worked with Pharrell and Justin Timberlake is tweeting about him; you automatically figure he’s going to sound like Robin Thicke or event Justin. Francesco holds his own and brings a “new” thing back called singing…music…melodies…song writing…you get the point…I could go on, but I won’t.

I had the pleasure of hearing 5 unheard tracks produced by Pharrell Williams and Robin Hannibal. Once Yates’ full project is released, trust me, it’ll be worth every dime & dollar!

Intoxicated America {Review} [ @TanaRocks_ @Rxkstxr ]

IA Cover

IA Back Cover

past tense: intoxicated; past participle: intoxicated
(of alcoholic drink or a drug) cause (someone) to lose control of their faculties or behavior.
Intoxicated America, the album. Hosted by MJ the DJ. Executive Producer by Rxkstxr. Featuring TanaRocks and Rxkstxr.
Psychedelic rap is the best way to describe Intoxicated America. The next soundtrack to Project X II. Half naked girls pillow fighting in dorm rooms, taking bathroom selfies, and twerking in Vine videos. Guys who want more in a girl but will take the party girl for now because they’re…well they’re fun!!!
If you’re looking for a lyrically filled album with positive metaphors this isn’t the album for you. IA is filled with party beats that don’t fit into the “trap rap” category or the “alternative” category, it’s just Intoxicated music. It’s obvious that the guest producers and featured artists were hand picked to be apart of the album. IA is a cohesive blend of dope production that doesn’t consist of the same radio formula that’s constantly shoved down our throats. The featured artist were just that…featured! You know those albums that have so many features you can’t remember whose album it is and you’re convinced it’s a compilation.
TanaRocks spits his lyrically gifted tongue over each producer’s beats giving you witty punch lines and new millennium hippie jiggin’. Although, Rxkstxr may not be as lyrical as TanaRocks he still holds his own on IA with a few punch lines here and there while describing his party and sex life.
Download IA if you’re looking for a soundtrack to a sex, drugs, and RapRock N Roll filled night.

Street Dreaming II – Paper Paulk {Album} [@PaperPaulk]

Street Dreaming 2 cover

Flashback: Picture me reading The Source Magazine, thumbing through the pages until I reach the Holy Grail…the album reviews. I scan each review to see how many mics this or that Album received. Your heart races as you read your favorite rappers review because you’re hoping their album is gonna to be THE SHIT and you’re gonna to be the FIRST to cop it!!

That artist for me was Jay-Z and the Roc-A-Fella camp. He was one of the few rappers that rewarded you for pre-ordering his album and I did so gladly with each release! I still have some of the trinkets to this day. Now…picture me walking into an actual record store, coping my Jigga CD, getting in my truck, opening the plastic (which took FOREVER!), popping out the CD and sliding it into the CD slot with a big grin on my face. I felt like all was right with the world. I’m now reading the CD booklet from cover to cover, scanning the photos, reading the liner notes and thank yous!

All of a sudden…the beat drops and Jigga’s famous “un huhuhn” followed by his lyrical prowess and beat rides are flowing out of your speakers. His albums always dropped in the winter, but no matter the weather I was going to turn the beat up a level higher and roll the windows down so YOU would know that I copped THAT Jigga!!

Fastforward: Hip Hop Magazines are mostly digital, album reviews aren’t as anticipated and record stores are “vintage”. Your anticipation of your favorite rapper’s album is spoiled by a leaked link on the internet and you have no idea what the cover actually looks like or how it reads. You’re still excited about pulling up with the latest blasting from your ride, but it’s now hooked up to your iPod, iPhone, or Android. But if you’re like me, THAT’S your ‘Holy Grail’. Not just anyone gets added to the iPod playlist without being dope and not just anyone gets played during roadtrips!

Paper Paulk is not just anyone. He’s known as ‘THE TRUTH’! When you first hear Paper Paulk on the beat you immediately notice that his voice is different, he doesn’t sound like anyone. His lyrical content is real, rugged and raw. Paulk gives you his life on a beat that’s served with story telling, punch lines, and sincerity.

When I took that first listen to Street Dreaming II I immediately had that cold day in November flashback. Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z exchanging bars of street tales, fatherless woes, and making it for their moms. You felt every bar because you knew that shit was real. Paper Paulk is The Truth, Street Dreaming II is real and when the album drops July 1st you’re gonna roll your windows down so THEY know that YOU copped it!

Happy Cinco De Mayo!!!

Dockside_cinco-de-mayoCinco de Mayo is probably the holiday most often celebrated that no one understands. What’s it all about? How is it celebrated? What does it mean to Mexicans? Here are the answers in a handy guide.

What is Cinco de Mayo?:

Literally “the Fifth of May,” Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican Holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. In 1861, France sent a massive army to invade Mexico, as they wanted to collect on some war debts. The French army was much larger, better trained and equipped than the Mexicans struggling to defend the road to Mexico City. It rolled through Mexico until it reached Puebla, where the Mexicans made a valiant stand, and, against all logic, won a huge victory. It was short-lived, as the French army regrouped and continued; eventually taking Mexico City, but the euphoria of an unlikely victory against overwhelming odds is remembered every May fifth.

Isn’t it Mexico’s Independence Day?:

That’s a common misconception. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16, because it was on that day in 1810 that Father Miguel Hidalgo took to his pulpit in the village church of the town of Dolores and invited his flock to take up arms and join him in overthrowing Spanish tyranny. Independence Day is a very important holiday in Mexico and not to be confused with Cinco de Mayo.

How Big a Deal is Cinco de Mayo?:

Cinco de Mayo is a big deal in Puebla, where the famous battle took place but it really isn’t as important as most people think. September 16, Independence Day, is a much more important holiday in Mexico. For some reason, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the United States of America, by Mexicans and Americans alike, than it is in Mexico. One theory for why it is more popular in the USA is that at one time, it was celebrated in all of Mexico and by Mexicans living in former Mexican territories such as Texas and California. It was ignored in Mexico after a while but still celebrated north of the border, which never got out of the habit of remembering the famous battle.

How is Cinco de Mayo Celebrated?:

In Puebla and in many USA cities with large Mexican populations, there are parades, dancing and festivals. Traditional Mexican food is often served or sold. Mariachi bands fill town squares, and a lot of Dos Equis and Corona beers are served. It’s a fun holiday, really more about celebrating the Mexican way of life than about remembering a battle which happened 150 years ago. It is sometimes referred to as a “Mexican St. Patrick’s Day.” In the USA, schoolchildren do units on the holiday, decorate their classrooms and try their hand at cooking some basic Mexican foods. All over the world, Mexican restaurants bring in Mariachi bands and offer specials for what’s almost certain to be a packed house.

How Can I Host a Cinco de Mayo Party?:

It’s easy to host a Cinco de Mayo party! Making basic Mexican food like salsa and burritos is not too complicated, add some decorations and mix some Margaritas and you’re good to go.
